The Serco Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and Procedures document affirms the commitment of the senior management team to safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of all those who work at or visit International Fire Training Centre (IFTC). It lays down the responsibilities of the business and provides the key principles for maintaining a safe and healthy working environment and is reviewed annually.
Health and Safety responsible person
IFTC has a number of Health, Safety & Environmental champions who, with support from the Serco Safety, Risk & Compliance unit, are responsible for managing the day to day health and safety matters and ensuring that IFTC complies with all current legislation.
Health and Safety Information
Notices relating to health and safety issues are displayed around all sites on the health and safety notice boards situated in the accommodation building in the reception area, technology house and technology block.
All accidents and injuries should be recorded in the accident book which is held at various strategic locations throughout IFTC.
Visitors to IFTC who are involved in accidents should fill in the accident book as above.
Contract staff who are involved in accidents should also fill in the accident book and then report the incident to the relevant Manager/Supervisor.
First Aid points which are identified by a white cross on a green background are located around the site together with a list of qualified first aiders. More urgent cases will be referred to the local hospital. If you feel you need the attention of a doctor or dentist please consult your course instructor who will make the necessary arrangements through reception.

Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures
Fire instructions are displayed in all rooms. Please ensure that you have read and are familiar with the procedures.
Delegates will be briefed on IFTC’s safety procedures on the first day of the course.
For security purposes name badges are issued to all delegates and visitors. Please ensure you wear your name badge at all times. IFTC staff are instructed to challenge anyone not wearing a name badge and catering staff may refuse service if no badge is worn.
IFTC cannot take responsibility for any valuables that are lost or stolen. You are requested not to leave money, jewellery, etc. in your room. The Administration department has the facility of a safe and access to it can be made during normal office hours. Delegates attending practical training sessions are offered the use of a personal security locker when allocated with changing area
A responsible person is on duty 24 hours per day.
Fire alarms are tested every Monday at approximately 09.00 hrs.
IFTC operates a no smoking policy throughout its buildings as required by legislation.
